Evidências Científicas e Limites da Ética: Recomendações da ABPTGIC

Resumo

As cirurgias e procedimentos estéticos genitais femininos estão se tornando cada vez mais populares, sendo propagados como de fácil realização, isentos de complicações e capazes de, não só melhorar a aparência estética, mas também aumentarem a autoestima e o prazer sexual. O incremento indiscriminado no número destes procedimentos tem causado inúmeros efeitos deletérios na saúde genital feminina. A imensa diversidade de intervenções direcionadas à estética íntima e a escassez de estudos publicados se traduz na falta de informações sobre os reais benefícios e os possíveis riscos destes procedimentos. A paciente deve ser orientada que a genitália feminina normal pode se apresentar com diferentes variações anatômicas. Finalmente, é essencial ressaltar que caracterizar a variação anatômica normal como necessitando de intervenção médica expõe mulheres saudáveis a cirurgias desnecessárias e com potencial para complicações sérias.
