PRESENTATION AND SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts should be submitted via email to scientifica@ colposcopia.org.br. Authors must also attach a declaration signed by all authors, confirming their agreement with the editorial standards, the review process, the transfer of copyright to ABPTGI, and the absence or existence of conflicts of interest. For original works, a copy of the approval from the Ethics Committee of the institution where the research was conducted must be submitted. Each manuscript is limited to a maximum of seven authors. Works of collective (institutional) authorship must specify those responsible. Collaborative work and multicenter studies should list the researchers responsible for the protocols applied as authors (up to a maximum of five). Other contributors can be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section or detailed as “Additional Information about Authorship” at the end of the article. Conflicts of interest must be disclosed in situations that could inappropriately influence the development or conclusions of the work. Potential sources of conflict include received aid, subordinate work relationships, consultancies, etc.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts must fit into one of the following categories:

Original articles: The text must be between 2000 and 3000 words, excluding references and tables. It must contain a maximum of 5 tables and/or figures. The number of bibliographic references must not exceed 30. Its structure must contain the following parts: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and References. The Methods section must mention the approval of the study by the Human Research Ethics Committee, or by the Animal Research Ethics Committee, linked to the Institution where the project was developed. If the research was carried out on human beings, the declaration that the participants signed the informed consent form must be included.

Revisions and Updates: These will be carried out at the invitation of the Editorial Board which, exceptionally, may also accept works considered of interest. The text must not exceed 5000 words, excluding references and tables. The total number of illustrations and tables must not exceed 5. The number of bibliographic references must be limited to 50.

Case Reports: The text must not exceed 1500 words, excluding references and figures. It must consist of Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, and References. The total number of illustrations and/or tables must not exceed 3 and the limit of bibliographical references is 20. When the number of cases exceeds 3, the manuscript will be classified as a Case Series, and the rules of an original article will be applied.

Thesis Abstracts: presented and approved in the last 12 months from the date of submission of the summary. They must contain up to 250 words, title in Portuguese and English and keywords. Inform the full name of the author, panel participants, date and place where the thesis was carried out and presented.

Letters to the Editor: They must be written succinctly, not exceeding 700 words and not listing more than 5 references. Original contributions, comments, and suggestions related to published articles or a relevant medical topic will be considered for publication. When the letter includes criticism, the authors of the original cited article will be invited to respond.

Manuscripts must contain: Title page; Abstract and keywords; Resumo and palavras-chave; Text; References; Tables (each with title and caption); Graphics (each with title and caption) and Figures. Acronyms and abbreviations must be described the first time they appear in the text and must not be separated by periods (example: cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).

Title page: Must present the concise and descriptive title of the article in Portuguese and English; full names of authors without abbreviations and with respective academic titles; name of the Institution where the work was developed, institutional affiliation of the authors, information on assistance received in the form of financing, equipment or drug supply, and the presence or absence of a conflict of interest of all authors. Indicate the name, address, telephone number, and email of the corresponding author. The title must not contain abbreviations, except internationally known ones.

Abstract: Must contain easily understood information, without the need to refer to the text, not exceeding 250 words. It must be done in a structured way with: Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. When dealing with Review, update, and Case Report articles, Abstracts must not be structured and will be limited to 200 words. Keywords or uniterms must be inserted just below the abstract, listing 3 to 5 items (they must be based on DeCS - Health Sciences Descriptors - available at: (http://decs.bvs.br).

Resumo and palavras-chave: A Portuguese version, corresponding to the content of the Abstract must be provided.

Introduction: The introduction shows the current situation of the topic, describes the rationale for the study, justifying it based on medical literature, but without an extensive review of the literature. The objectives of the work must be clearly mentioned.

Methods: This section presents the study design, how the sample was selected, its composition, and sample losses. The data collection process, the instruments and/or equipment used (name of the manufacturer and/or origin of the material in parentheses), and how the statistical analysis was performed must be clearly described. In the case of a study with medicines, the brand and manufacturer must be mentioned only in this section, reserving, in the other sections, the use of the Brazilian common name of the drug, which can be found at http://www.anvisa.gov.br. In the case of human studies, one must indicate the approval of the study (including the project approval number) by the Ethics Committee and whether the patients signed the informed consent.

Results: The results must be presented in a logical sequence, clearly, avoiding repetition of data shown in tables or figures. The results that are relevant to the objective(s) of the work must be presented.

Discussion: Must be directly related to the topic and supported by literature. This section comments on the new and significant aspects of the study, its implications and limitations, and makes comparisons with other studies. Avoid repeating results or information already presented in other sections. Conclusions should be based on study findings and included in the last paragraph of this section. The last paragraph should also express, if relevant, recommendations and clinical implications.

Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments must appear after the text and are addressed to people who contributed intellectually (but which does not justify authorship) or with technical, financial or material support, including government assistance and/or assistance from pharmaceutical laboratories.

Tables, graphics, and figures (photographs and illustrations): Tables and graphics must be presented in black and white, with captions and respective numbers printed at the foot of each illustration. Only illustrations that allow good reproduction will be accepted. Figures (photographs) must be sent in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.

References: References must be cited in the text according to the numerical system (Arabic number) and numbered consecutively in the order of appearance in the text, using the Vancouver system http://www.library. uq.edu.au/training/ citation/vancouv.pdf. Up to 6 authors list all; for 7 or more authors, list the first 6 followed by “et al.”
