Colposcopy in clinical practice: fundamentals, techniques, and diagnostic findings

Colposcopy is a complementary diagnostic test that allows for an enlarged view of the cervix, vagina, and vulva, indicated mainly after changes in the Pap smear or a positive test for high-risk HPV types 16 and 18. The main objective of this diagnostic method is to identify precancerous and cancerous lesions so that they can be treated early, contributing to more accurate and effective management. The test involves the use of specific techniques and the application of solutions that highlight epithelial changes, allowing the professional to identify lesions with greater precision. Thus, colposcopy has established itself as an essential tool for the screening and prevention of cervical cancer, reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis and ongoing care for women's health.
