Abstract

Vulvoscopy is an important tool for diagnosing vulvar diseases, including infections, skin conditions, systemic diseases,
precancerous lesions, and cancer. The examination involves a detailed observation of the vulva, which can be done with the
naked eye or with magnification, using a magnifying glass or colposcope. Although the colposcope is more effective on the
cervix, it can help identify vulvar lesions for biopsies and treatments. The use of acetic acid on the vulva is less effective than on
the cervix, presenting a high rate of false positives. The inspection begins with a visual observation of the vulvar areas, looking
for signs of lesions, ulcers, or changes in color and texture. If necessary, the examination is supplemented with magnification
and good lighting. The cotton swab test is recommended to identify vulvodynia, helping to differentiate localized pain from
generalized pain, which is useful for subsequent treatments.
