Vulvar cancer has an incidence of 2.5 cases per 100,000 women/year, meeting the rare cancer criterion, defined as one with an
incidence of fewer than six cases per 100,000 women/year. The invasive form is preceded by lesions known as vulvar intraepithelial
neoplasia (VIN), whose nomenclature has varied over the years, causing confusion among clinicians, particularly regarding
therapeutic approaches. New classifications were proposed based on morphology and molecular biology since treatment
modalities depend on whether the lesions are HPV-associated or HPV-independent. Approach options are discussed.
